Bare Boat Yacht Charters , whether on a Motor Cruiser or Sail boat, offer more freedom than any other form of sailing apart from perhaps owning your own yacht because you are your own Skipper.
Bareboat Charters allow you the choice of where to sail, which boat to charter, who and how many others are in the crew, what time to set sail and where to moor.
This type of charter suits the more experienced sailor with a knowledge of navigation and seamanship or maybe a keen first timer who has a friend with the necessary experience who would like to join them on their sailing vacation.
At the end of the day you will need to satisfy the Charter Company or Yacht Owner of your ability and be satisfied yourself that you are capable of taking charge of a yacht in a safe and seamalike manner.
A Day Skipper or equivelent qualification is fine and an International Certificate of Competence is usually required in Europe.
However an able sailor with no formal qualifications is usually accepted.
Another approach would be to take Sailing Lessons with a sailing school or sea school and gain the experience and qualifications before embarking on the sailing holiday.
For those with some experience there are some very good correspondence courses and books which would fill in the gaps.
You may prefer to have a Professional Skipper on hand if you do not want to take responsibility for your friends and family. In which case try Floilla Sailing or Skippered Yacht Charter
